Book Trailers

Wow, I never realised how out of the loop I was. I never even heard of a book trailer until I was reading a blog (Spellbound by Books) and saw at the bottom of one of the posts (this one) a ‘book trailer’. Curious I clicked and entered the world of book trailers.

What a great way to advertise your book in a world full of interactivity. Plus it must be very exciting to see your book on film, even if only as a small advertisement.

Wow! This is so cool! Sorry about the repeated use of exclamation points, but when you feel it, you feel it. I’m super excited and want to make one for Storybook Perfect. Of course I’d need models/actors for my primary characters and I need at least the beach/camp setting and one setting for Azulia (the other world) and I’d have to make the costumes somehow. No idea where I’ll find the time or money for that… but I’m already visualising storyboards in my mind. It’s like someone pushed a cart onto a slope, you can’t stop me now. Of course it will take a while, there’s so much to do both with that and all my other projects, but I’ll find the time somewhere, somehow.

Of course, being a n00b to book trailers in general I really want to see more to get an idea of what is the right and wrong way to go about them, if anyone out there has favourites or favourite-to-laugh-ats please let me know, I’d love to see them all.

Hi Kirstie, just letting you know that if your plan to do a book trailer gets off the ground, I have a diploma in cinemagraphic makeup, so if you wanted any special effects done, I’d be happy to help. I also studied theatre at uni for 3 years, so I can help with props, costumes, acting, scripting etc. Just throwing it out there, even if you wanted someone to run your ideas by, I can give you some suggestions on how to cut costs- I think what you’re doing is really brave, so I just wanted to show my support and help you realise that it’s not an unachievable goal 🙂 Happy writing!

Thanks, that would be amazing! It will be a little bit away, right now I’m trying to figure out whether I’ll do the slideshow style or the scene style trailer and then I’ll know what I need in the way of actors/models, settings, costumes ect. Also I probably need to have the book actually being published, otherwise people might get excited about the trailer but then intrest wanes because years pass with no book. Gah! There’s so much to think about, but don’t worry, I’ll let you know when plans start moving forward. Thanks again.

Don’t worry, I’ll be batting my eyelashes at you when it comes to costume time because I won’t be able to do them all myself, and you’re an expert 🙂

I like book trailers. I only discovered them a few months back, but I think they really give you the ‘feel’ of the book. If you can do it for movies, why not a book! 🙂

Exactly! Even the powerpoint style ones have a lot of impact. I’ve been watching tonnes of them the last couple of days and I want so many books now >.<
